Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they are aware of domestic violence allegations made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and had been in contact with the NFL.
The team omitted the name of Rice by name in their statement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention the athlete by name, shared a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She stated the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with Rice, whom the team drafted in the second round.
Police Reports Reportedly Not on File
No official complaints were available in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have occurred.
Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles
Rice missed the first six games of this season due to an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people hurt. He was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
Statistically, he concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
