The Actress Says Mentioning Donald Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ That’s Ripping the Nation Apart
The star has revealed that she believes it's no longer appropriate to voice opinions regarding the Trump government, concerned it could intensify divisive discussions and increase separation within the nation.
‘I Question the Usefulness’, Explains the Actress
During a discussion, Lawrence shared, “During the first Trump administration, I believed I was moving hastily without clear direction. But experience has shown, election after election, Hollywood stars fail to influence at all on voter decisions.”
She continued, “What’s the point? I’m just sharing my opinion on something that’s going to worsen tensions that’s ripping the country apart.”
Changing Allegiances
Lawrence has previously been open about supporting right and leftwing presidential nominees over the years. Growing up with Republican parents in her home state, she cast her ballot for John McCain in 2008 before joining the left-leaning politics and revealing she understood during the Obama era that supporting the GOP was opposing her personal freedoms as a female citizen.
Past Statements
In 2015, she stated that Donald Trump’s election would be “a catastrophic event” and backed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. During the most recent election, she gave her endorsement to Vice President Harris, “as I feel she’s an excellent choice and I trust that she will make every effort to defend reproductive rights.”

Jennifer Lawrence is currently promoting Die, My Love, the filmmaker’s project in which she plays a recent parent who deals with her emotional state in rural Montana. At a interview session for the movie in the film festival, Lawrence addressed Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “I feel fear. It’s horrifying. What’s occurring is equivalent to a atrocity and it’s terrible.”
Broader Concerns
Lawrence added by expressing that she was disappointed by “the lack of civility in the discourse of the political landscape currently and how that is going to be accepted to the kids right now. It’s going to be normal to them that politicians lie.”
The actor sought to redirect outrage about the issue to policymakers rather than actors and artists. “Keep attention on the people in charge,” she advised, which was interpreted as a nod to the then-recent pledge endorsed by more than 4,000 arts community members to avoid Israeli film institutions.
Personal Connections
The actor, who won an Oscar aged 22 for her part in Silver Linings Playbook, is receiving praise for her portrayal in the new film. Even though Ramsay has denied the narrative being interpreted as one of post-birth struggles and psychological distress, the actress shared that she identified with elements of her film narrative after the birth of her new baby, soon after production wrapped.
“It was fear for my son,” she explained, “imagining every potential danger, and then doubting everything that I was trying. I was already in therapy, but I started taking a medication called the prescription and I took it for two weeks and it was effective.”
Career Moments
Lawrence also spoke about the empowering aspect of shooting revealing sequences in the project while she was in pregnancy and couldn’t work out.
“It’s refreshing,” she commented, about having to set aside self-consciousness. “Honestly, I sometimes think where I’m like, What separates me between me and a prostitute? But it isn’t a major concern.”
